William Tyndale's Bible was the very first English language Bible to appear in print. It was first published in the year 1525. The Tyndale Bible came under heavy critisism from many Catholics who were unhappy with the idea of a Bible which was written in a language other than Latin.

Many people in the Christian world could not read latin, and priests had to translate the Bible to their congregations. However, Tyndale decided that every person in Christendom should have a Bible written in their own language, so that they could read the Bible themselves.

However a non-Latin Bible was illegal due to Church law, and Tyndale's Bible was banned, and Tyndale himself burned at the stake.
