Joke sports are games that are poor substitutes for strenuous athletic endeavors that bring out the best in human achievement. The inclusion of the sports in the 2012 Summer Olympics detracts from the serious events.
Examples of joke sports are:
- synchronized swimming
- rhythmic gymnastics
- table tennis
- women's boxing
- beach volleyball
- non-racing bicycle events
- skateboarding
