Virginia Dare was born on August 18, 1587 and has the distinction of being the the first child born to English settlers in the New World. She was born to Ananias Dare and his wife, Elinor (Eleanor) White, daughter of of John White, the colony’s governor. The settlement was Roanoke Colony, also known as the Lost Colony.
