Benjamin was a small tribe known for its left-handed slingers in battle.  As recorded in the [[Judges (Biblical book)|Book of Judges]] in the [[Bible]], they were almost destroyed by the other tribes in battle due to the horrible crimes of some of their kinsmen and their defiance in seeing them brought to justice.  But once the war was over, a remnant remained and the other tribes took pity upon them and allowed them to take wives so they could continue.
