A salt is the ionic product of the conjugate acid and conjugate base in an acid-base reaction. Salts have an overall neutral charge.
In common usage, salt often refers to sodium chloride (NaCl), known as table salt. Salt is used as a seasoning and a preservative. It can be formed by the reaction of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and hydrochloric acid (HCl).
