Treebeard is a character in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth world, appearing in The Lord of the Rings.
He is an Ent, a tree-like being, intelligent and emotionally sensitive,with free will just like a human. He is known to be one of the oldest living beings in all of Middle-Earth, at least several thousands of years old.
Treebeard was master of Fangorn Forest, and it was Merry and Pippin's good fortune to meet them after escaping from the orcs who had kidnapped them.
