Tarzan' is a character is popular novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The character is the son of an English nobleman who grows up in Africa among a pack of apes. Tarzan learns the ways of the jungle and protects its inhabitants from outsiders. The first Tarzan novel was published in 1914.
Film
Tarzan has a standard type of portrayal in films and comic books. He swings through the jungle on long, sturdy vines, and announces his arrival with a yodel. (Carol Burnett is famous for recreating this yodel.) Tarzan's girlfriend is Jane and his sidekick is a chimp named "Cheetah." A famous snatch of dialogue is "Me Tarzan, you Jane."
