Pocket billiards is the term for a collective of games played on a billiard table having 6 pockets along the cushions, in which the aim is to knock the balls into the pockets by way of striking a cue ball with a cue stick. Some variations, such as Carom billiards, are played on tables without pockets where the aim is to strike two balls with the cue ball in one shot.
The term Pocket billiards is now generally not used. Instead, pool is used to describe billiards' many forms. There are numerous different types of pocket billiards games, for example eight-ball, nine-ball and straight pool.
The game snooker is played on a table with pockets just like billiards, but is considered to be its own discipline of cue sport.
