The term Parthian shot refers literally to the practice among the soldiers of Parthia of firing arrows at the enemy while retreating, intending no further battle and hoping that the shot will prove successfully fatal. In debates, it refers to a (often sarcastic) remark made just before one of the participants leaves, intended to worsen their opponents position.
