Its capital city is Accra. Ghana has a land area of 92,100 square miles (238,537 sq km) and a population of 23 millions.

Ghana was formerly a British colony and was known as Gold Coast. It gained its independence in 1957, the second British territory in sub-saharan Africa to do so (South Africa was the first).
