Cherokee Nation v. Georgia was a Supreme Court decision during the terms of United States President Andrew Jackson on a dispute between the Cherokees and the State of Gerogia. Georgia attempted to strip the Cherokee Indians of their rights, and force them to move. However, the Cherokees fought back by taking the situation to Washington. But in 1830 Congress passed the Indian Removal Act, which allowed the President to remove the Cherokees from areas east of the Mississippi.

The situation might have ended there, but the Cherokees under John Ross brought the situation to the courts. It managed to get a case in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court initially decided that it had no jurisdiction on an issue of a proclaimed seperate nation but later made a decision on the related case of Worcester v. Georgia.
