Anorexia is a psychological syndrome (or behavior pattern) in which typically a young girl systematically starves herself because she thinks she is too fat.
As with several other similar diagnoses, the popular press often implies that the behavior is caused by the syndrome. In fact, the behavior is the syndrome.
