-Brooks, who obtained a PhD in applied mathematics from [[Harvard University]], also made enormous contributions to the theory of computing.  He won the prestigious Turing Award in 1999.  He founded the Department of Computer Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965, and was chairman of that department for 20 years. He remained in active research four decades later, and in January 2005 he delivered the IEE/BCS annual Turing Lecture in London with the title of "Collaboration and Telecollaboration in Design."
-Brooks is popularly known for penning the book, ''The Mythical Man-Month'', in which he famously observed: "Adding manpower to a late software project makes it later."
