Top Mistranslated Bible Terms include the following:
- "Kingdom of God" should be translated as "God's paradise"
- "eternal life" should be translated as "infinite life" (some Scripture contexts, such as in Jude 7 , use the word "eternal" to refer to an unending effect yet finite duration)
- "the Son of Man" should be translated as "the Son, as Man"
- "dogs" in several contexts should be translated as "homosexuals" (the Hebrew and Greek terms for "dogs" are slang for "homosexuals," at Deuteronomy 23:18 , Philippians 3:2 , Psalms 22:20 , and Revelation 22:15 )
- "harden not your hearts" should be translated as "close not your minds"
- "peace be with you" should be translated as "tranquility be with you" or "paradise be with you"
- "everlasting" should be translated as the more powerful "infinite"
- "the Jews" in the Gospel of John should be translated as "the Judeans" since the dispute was regionally rather than ethnically motivated[1]
- "dust" should be translated as "earth" (the likely symbolic meaning in Genesis 3:14 of Satan consuming the Earth is easier to recognize when the Hebrew word עָפָר, "aphar," is translated into "earth" rather than "dust"; the Brenton Septuagint Translation uses "earth" instead of "dust")
(please add to list)
Debatable
- it is debatable whether the changing of water into wine should really be translated as water into grape juice. The latter is not as attractive to alcoholics, obviously, but the miracle would be no less great.
