Love was born in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from the University of Hartford in the capital city of Hartford, Connecticut. In 1998, Love moved to Utah. A Mormon, she is married with three children. She began in politics as a city councilwoman. In 2010, she was elected as only the third mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah.[1]

In her first race for Congress, Love received endorsements from such Republican leaders as Eric Cantor, Paul Ryan, and Kevin McCarthy. Though she ran as an insurgent conservative, she is now considered part of the Moderate Republican establishment.

Love and Will Hurd of Texas' 23rd congressional district are the only African-American Republicans currently serving in the U.S. House.
