The Euphrates River, along with the Tigris River, supported the development of ancient Mesopotamian culture. The area around the two rivers is known as the Fertile Crescent.

The Euphrates River stretches from eastern Turkey, through Syria and Iraq, before merging with the Tigris to form the Shatt al-Arab which flows into the Persian Gulf.

The Bible lists the Euphrates River as one of four that flowed out of the land of Eden, however young-Earth creationists believe that the current river and the Edenic river are not the same river, but that the current river was named after the Edenic river just as some rivers in Australia or America are named after rivers back in Britain.
