Stream of consciousness is a literary technique made popular by James Joyce and William Faulkner which consists of a rambling written series of thoughts and feelings by a character in a novel, usually developing into epiphanies and revelations. This developed based on interest in psychoanalysis. The technique was devised during the first half of the twentieth century, and has since been used by many other authors.

- The Time of the Hero (La ciudad y los perros) by Mario Vargas Llosa.
- Brazilian author Clarice Lispector defined her work by stream of consciousness.
- Virginia Woolf presented the method in her works as well.
