Parker Griffith, M.D., born August 6, 1942 (age 84), is a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Alabama's 5th congressional district, based about Huntsville. He won his seat in 2008 by a margin of 51-48 percent. He served on the Committee on Science and Technology, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Committee on Small Business. Previously he was a member of the Alabama State Senate.
On December 22, 2009, Griffith switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. "Our nation is at a crossroads and I can no longer align myself with a party that continues to pursue legislation that is bad for our country, hurts our economy, and drives us further and further into debt." [1]
Griffith was defeated for renomination by attorney Mo Brooks, who then won the seat in the 2010 general election.
