Kim Munley

Kimberley Munley (34 years old, native of Carolina Beach, North Carolina) is a civilian police officer from Killeen, Texas who helped stop the Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. After she was shot in the upper leg and thigh region (a bullet passed through both her legs), and wrist, the terrorist began reloading. It was then not Munley (as initially reported) but rather her partner, Mark Todd, who stopped Hason.

She was initially hailed as a heroine, while the media downplayed Todd's role. Robert Cone, the top commander at Ford Hood has praised Sergeant Kimberly Munley for her aggressive and amazing performance at the incident. [1]

Munley was one of the first responders to health care providers at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. [2] She was outside directing traffic before the shooting.

Sgt. Andrew Hagerman, a Fort Hood military policeman, escorted in a police car the first ambulance on scene. That ambulance would transport Kimberly Munley, the first officer to respond who shot the suspect, Major Malik Hasan. Ibidem

Sergeant Andrew Hagerman was also on shooting scene as medics treated Hasan.

Munley, nicknamed Mighty Mouse, loves country music; she has two daughters, and is married to Staff Sgt. Matthew Munley, a soldier at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Munley's father, Dennis Barbour, is a former mayor of Carolina Beach. The coastal town is about 15 miles south of Wilmington.

Wrightsville Beach Police Chief John Carey said Munley, who worked for the force from 2000 to 2002 before moving away from the area, was a petite officer who worked well with others. [3]
