Richard Blumenthal (born February 13, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York) has served as the Attorney General of Connecticut since 1991 and is a member of the Democratic Party. He is the Senator-elect from Connecticut, after defeating World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon in the race to replace retiring Chris Dodd. Previously he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and State Senate.

In 2007, the libertarian-leaning Competitive Enterprise Institute ranked Blumenthal "the nation's worst state attorney general" and "a tireless crusader for growing the power of his own office and spreading largesse to his cronies." [1]
