Linux Mint a free, open source, community developed linux operating system. The main release is Ubuntu-based, and the LMDE release is a Debian-based five year release.[1][3] It is currently ranked as the 4th most widely used home operating system; before it are Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Canonical's Ubuntu. Linux Mint was started in 2006, and is still in development with the latest version being Linux Mint 21.3 "Virginia" as of January 2024.[4] Modern releases support three possible desktops out of the box, Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce.
