The Government Accountability Institute (GAI) is a conservative investigative group founded in 2012 by Peter Schweizer and Steve Bannon.

The stated mission of GAI is "to investigate and expose crony capitalism, misuse of taxpayer monies, and other governmental corruption or malfeasance."[1] It played a role in publishing the books Clinton Cash, Bush Bucks, Secret Empires, and Fraud.

The Mercer Family Foundation and the Koch brothers-affiliated Donors Trust donated nearly $4 million to the GAI between 2012 and 2014.[2][3] The GAI has been attacked by the mainstream media and George Soros-related groups for its investigative work.[4]

Although the name is very similar to the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the GAI is not affiliated with the government.
