Human Events was founded as a conservative magazine in 1944. Its name comes from the opening of the Declaration of Independence: "When in the course of human events ...". The name was originally when in the course but was changed to human events only a few weeks later.

Eagle Publishing purchased Human Events and also a conservative book publisher, Regnery Publishing, Inc. Its current editors are Thomas S. Winter and Terence P. Jeffrey, and its prominent columnists include Robert Novak, Ann Coulter, and Michael Roberts.

President Ronald Reagan described Human Events as his favorite magazine.[Citation Needed]
