Parker Griffith, M.D., born August 6, 1942 (age 84), is a former member of the United States House of Representatives from Alabama's 5th congressional district, based about Huntsville. He won his seat in 2008 by a margin of 51-48 percent. He served on the Committee on Science and Technology, Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Committee on Small Business. Previously he was a member of the Alabama State Senate.
On December 22, 2009, Griffith switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. Griffith was defeated for renomination by attorney Mo Brooks, who then won the seat in the 2010 general election.
He later switched back and ran as a Democrat for Governor of Alabama in 2014, losing to Robert J. Bentley.
