Generation X consists of people born between 1965 and 1980, although the boundaries of the ages vary. They are typically the children of Baby Boomers, and are now beginning their own families. Author Douglas Coupland's 1991 novel Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture led to the popular use of this term to refer to the post-Boomer generation, although it had previously appeared as the title of a 1965 book on UK youth culture by sociologists Charles Hamblett and Jane Deverson and as the name of a 1970s punk rock band led by Billy Idol.
