Henri J. M. Nouwen (1932 - 1996) was a Dutch Catholic Priest and author. His books include The Wounded Healer (1972) and In the Name of Jesus (1989).

He was ordained in 1957 and moved to the United States in 1964. He taught at Yale University, Harvard University and the University of Notre Dame. He also ministered to the poor in Peru and the mentally handicapped in Toronto.

His book The Return of the Prodigal Son (1992) is a spiritual interpretation of the Rembrandt painting of the same name.

Nouwen battled with depression in the late 1980s, he published his personal writings from this time in The Inner Voice of Love (1996).
