The famous seven hills on which Rome was built, the seat of pagan imperial Roman power. Vatican Hill was outside Rome and was not one of them. The seven hills are these:

- Aventinus (Aventine)
- Caelius (Caelian)
- Capitolium (Capitoline)
- Esquiliae (Esquiline)
- Palatium (Palatine)
- Quirinalis (Quirinal)
- Viminalis (Viminal)
