A Local Maximum occurs on a function at a point such that the function is less than the maximum for an area around the function. The function must be continuous in this area.
Mathematically, a local maximum is said to exist at point c if: <math>f(c) > f(x)</math>, for some <math>|x-c|<a</math>.
