Kinda simplistic. It is obvious that whomever originally wrote this article knows nothing more about the series than the back of a book and some own perceptions. I have read the series and fixed it accordingly.
I'll admit that I was put off of the series, at first, with a protagonist such as Light. However, the more I read, the more I came to realize that this series is not all black and white. While Light has good intentions, he is somewhat evil, and will use those that are close to him. I feel it is my duty, however, to point out that he states his desire to become the "God" of his utopia world, at the beginning of the series, not after he is being investigated.
L is not the true protagonist either. While fighting Kira, L is known to do anything in his power, such as sacrificing a criminal to locate Kira. All major characters in this series are "gray", as in, they can be seen as good or evil. They have their own motivations and their own bias. As such, no character can be hailed universally as a protagonist or an antagonist.
This article should also contain reference to the bans on "Death Note" in China as well as incidences in the U.S.A. where students have been suspended or expelled for making and using homemade Death Notes.
Quick Survey: If you had a Death Note, would you use it? If yes, on whom?
