Scientific notation is the mathematical concept of writing out numbers in the form <math>a * 10^b</math> (a times 10 to the power of b). For example, the number 123 in scientific notation would be written as 1.23 * 102. This notation allows one to write large numbers in an efficient form and to easily compare numbers based on exponents.[1]
