Bush was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars and a Captain in the American Revolution and is the great-great-great-great-great grandfather of president George W. Bush.

He is assumed to be the son of Richard Bush and Mary Fairbanks both of Dedham, Massachusetts. Mary's uncle George Fairbanks was an ancestor of American President William H. Taft.
