Luciano Pavarotti (Modena, Italy, October, 1935 - Modena, Italy, September 2007) Italian singer, one of the Three Tenors, possibly the most popular tenor since Caruso. He was born in Modena, Italy and it was on February 17, 1972, that the Pavarotti phenomenon was born at New York's Metropolitan Opera.
Illuminated by his radiant personality and propelled by his zest for life Luciano Pavarotti's golden voice transcended the walls of the opera house to reach inside every human heart and mind. [1]
Pavarotti's favorite roles were Rodolfo in Puccini's La Bohème, Nemorino in Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore, and Riccardo in Verdi's Un Ballo Maschera. His televised concert in London's Hyde Park, was the first concert in the history of the park featuring classical music and drew a record attendance of some 150,000 people.
"Luciano's voice was so extraordinarily beautiful and his delivery so natural and direct that his singing spoke right to the hearts of listeners whether they knew anything about opera or not," Metropolitan Opera music director James Levine.
