Marc Elliot Kasowitz (born June 28, 1952) is an American trial lawyer and partner of the New York City-based law firm Kasowitz Benson Torres.

Kasowitz was born in New Haven, Connecticut and is of Polish descent. He attended the Hopkins Grammar School in New Haven. He graduated from Yale College cum laude with a B.A. in American history. In 1977, he earned a Juris Doctor from Cornell University, where he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review.

Upon graduation, Kasowitz passed the New York bar exam and joined the Mayer, Brown & Platt law firm. In 1993 Kasowitz, 18 lawyers and two clients left Mayer Brown to establish the Kasowitz Benson Torres law firm.[1][2] The firm later expanded to the point of hiring former-Senator Joe Lieberman in 2013 to work in its lobbying group.[3]

Kasowitz has represented Bill O'Reilly and Donald Trump. Additionally, Kasowitz represents a company run by a Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, who is a very close associate of Vladimir Putin and who employed Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort for several years.[4]

Kasowitz represented the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), as conservator for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, in actions in federal and state courts against numerous financial institutions and individuals. FHFA settled the actions brought by Kasowitz for over $2 billion, including a $1.25 billion settlement with Morgan Stanley.[5]

Kasowitz represented Harold Peerenboom in a defamation action against billionaire Isaac Perlmutter arising out of an anonymous hate-mail campaign against Peerenboom. Marc defeated numerous motions by Perlmutter to dismiss the case, with the Court holding that the complaint's allegations sufficiently "link[ed]" Perlmutter to the hate mail campaign.[5]
