Elrond Peredhel, or Elrond Half-elven, is a fictional character in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium, appearing in The Lord of the Rings and other works.
Elrond is one of the Half-elven, son of Eärendil and Elwing. He chose a life as an Elf, whereas his brother Elros chose life as a mortal Man. Elrond founded the Elven settlement Rivendell in the Second Age, and became its Lord and Master. He fought in the War o the Last Alliance under the command of Gil-galad, who gave him the Ring Vilya for safekeeping.
