HMS Prince of Wales was a British World War II battleship, but was the 7th warship to be named for the heir to the British throne, the Prince of Wales. This Prince of Wales had a brief career, helping to stop the German battleship Bismarck in the Battle of the Denmark Strait. In August 1941 she would carry Winston Churchill to the Newfoundland where he met the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt to discuss the strategy of the war. In the lead up to the declaration of war with Japan, she was sent to Singapore in the Pacific Theatre, where on December 8th 1941, while on a mission to intercept Japanese amphibious forces, she was sunk by Japanese land-based bombers, along with the battlecruiser HMS Repulse.[1]

It is speculated that one of the two newest British Aircraft Carriers will be called the Price of Wales.
