The subconscious mind "is the part of your mind that operates below the level of conscious awareness. It stores memories, beliefs, and past experiences, influencing thoughts and actions without you consciously realizing it. Think of it as a vast database constantly processing information and shaping your responses."[4]
"While often used interchangeably, the terms "subconscious" and unconscious refer to distinct, though related, aspects of the mind. The subconscious is a level of mental activity below conscious awareness, influencing thoughts and behaviors without direct conscious control. The unconscious, in a Freudian context, refers to a deeper, more inaccessible realm of the mind, containing repressed memories and instincts." (See also: What is the subconscious and unconscious mind?).[5]
According to Kendra Cherry, MSEd:
| “ | The very idea that the unconscious exists has been controversial. A number of researchers have criticized the notion and questioned if there actually is an unconscious mind at all.
More recently in the field of cognitive psychology, researchers have focused on automatic and implicit functions to describe things that were previously attributed to the unconscious. According to this approach, there are many cognitive functions that take place outside of our conscious awareness.[6] |

Individuals potentially changing their subconscious thinking
It is thought that it might be possible to change one's subconscious mind through various techniques. This process, frequently called reprogramming the subconscious, involves influencing the deeply held beliefs and patterns that shape your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. By consciously working to change these patterns, it is thought that one can create more positive and empowering beliefs that align with your desired outcomes.[7]
Techniques thought to be able to change subconscious thinking:
1. Neuroplasticity: The brain's ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections is called neuroplasticity. This means you can create new pathways in your brain that become stronger than the old, limiting ones. Repetition and consistent effort are key to solidifying these new pathways.
Usain Bolt beating Tyson Gay and setting a 100 meter world record at the 2009 World Championships in Athletics in Berlin, Germany.
2. Techniques for reprogramming your subconscious thinking:
Visualization: Actively visualize your desired outcomes, engaging all your senses, to train your subconscious to believe in their possibility.
Self-talk and positive thinking: Repeat positive statements about your goals, focusing on each word with belief, to challenge and overcome negative self-talk.
Christian meditative prayer and meditation: Christian meditative prayer and meditation helps you relax your mind, access deeper levels of awareness, and identify and release negative patterns.
Gratitude: Expressing gratitude for what you have can shift your focus to positive aspects and accelerate the manifestation process.
Self-Hypnosis: Listening to guided meditations or recordings at night can help reprogram the subconscious while you sleep.
Action orientation and habits: Consciously building new, positive habits can lead to automatic, subconscious behavior patterns.
3. Key Principles
- Consistency is crucial: Regular practice of these techniques is essential for long-term change.
- Belief is powerful: The more you believe in the possibility of change, the more effectively you can reprogram your subconscious.
- Identify and address limiting beliefs: Become aware of the negative thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back and actively work to replace them with positive ones.

"Hypnotherapy leverages the power of the unconscious mind to facilitate positive change. By inducing a relaxed, focused state (hypnosis), it allows individuals to access and influence their unconscious mind, which is believed to play a significant role in shaping thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This can be used to address a variety of issues, from anxiety and phobias to limiting beliefs and habits." - Hypnotherapy and the unconscious mind
