Tommy Douglas (October 20, 1904 – February 24, 1986) was a Canadian Christian Minister and politician, who was heavily influenced by the Social Gospel.[1] He was the founder of the left-wing New Democratic Party (the successor of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation) and was a strong proponent of universal healthcare. He was recently voted the Greatest Canadian of All Time. Douglas is credited with the implementation of universal healthcare in Canada. See : Canadian Healthcare. He was the grandfather of actor Kiefer Sutherland, star of 24.[2]
