"Roid rage" a play on the unrelated problem of "road rage", is the violent behavior that can be triggered through use of anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids have been used by both professional and non-professional wrestlers, bodybuilders, football and baseball players and other athletes in a misguided attempt to enhance their muscle growth, aesthetic appearance and strength.
Roid rage can cause "paranoia, depression and explosive outbursts." It was suspected as a possible cause in the murders-suicide by the professional wrestler Chris Benoit.[1] Anabolic steroid abuse is also closely linked to other forms of drug abuse and polypharmacy (the use of a multitude of medications, both legal and otherwise).[2]
