Parchment is animal skin prepared to receive writing. Parchment is often used to mean any skin used for writing, although it strictly means only sheep or goatskin, while the term vellum means only calfskin.[1]
The majority of the earliest copies of the Bible in existence today are on parchment, due to the fact that it is more durable then papyrus.[2] Paul mentions "the parchments" in 2 Timothy 4:13.
