The Tren de Aragua[1] is a Venezuelan criminal mega-gang originating from the state of Aragua.[2] It started in Venezuela’s prisons, it has bases in the Tocorón prison and is led by pran Héctor "Niño" Guerrero.[3] The organization is a mega-gang (a criminal group with more than one hundred members),[4] according to InSight Crime, it is present in at least 6 Venezuelan states and in countries such as Brazil, Colombia,[5] Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, the United States and Mexico,[6] with the growth of the gang following the migration of Venezuelans to host nations[7] having a significant increase in its activities abroad since 2020.[8][2]
Several "Torture houses" of the gang were discovered.[9]
In April 2024, Marco Rubio questioned Biden Administration officials on Tren De Aragua and Hezbollah's influence on Chile under the Boric Administration.[10]
Per Nov 2024 report, tne gang is "operating in 16 states."[11]
