Talk:Cotton/Archive 1

Return to "Cotton/Archive 1" page.

The Bible forbids the wearing cotton mixed with polyester.

What on earth are you talking about? Leviticus 19:19 reads "...neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woolen come upon thee." Linen - not cotton, or polyester, and wool, not cotton, or polyester.

It depends what translation you are reading, doesn't it? The American Standard Version has neither shall there come upon thee a garment of two kinds of stuff mingled together. and the New International Version has Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.

Clearly, different translations will have differnt types of cloth mentioned, however, I think we can all be sure that polyester is not one of them!!! unsigned comment by Trajsmith

I think 'kinds of stuff' is pretty all-encompassing. Or are you suggesting that polyester isn't included in 'kinds of material'? It seems that God has a problem with mixed-weave fabrics and to suggest that polycotton isn't included in that is somewhat disingenuous. Like those Mormons who don't drink tea or coffee but will drink Coke, because the Angel Moroni expressly forbade the drinking of the first two, but Coke wasn't mentioned. Aloysius 06:22, 9 May 2007 (EDT)

Although I suppose that's slightly different. If Moroni had banned drinking caffeinated beverages and some people still drank Coke claiming that because Coke hadn't been invented then the angel couldn't have meant to include it, then that would be analogous to Christians wearing polycotton. and God willing, will be for a very long time

This doesn't sound very encyclopaedic to me. Aloysius 06:51, 18 April 2007 (EDT)

With all this carrying on about the Bible banning something that wasn't invented for a few thousand years, no one picked up on the "annual" "perennial" cock up. I'll fix it.AlanE 03:12, 9 May 2007 (EDT)
