Sauerkraut

Sauerkraut is pickled cabbage, which Germans commonly eat on hamburgers, hot dogs, and bratwursts as a condiment. Because of an anti-German sentiment in America during WW1 and WW2, many Americans who ate sauerkraut would call it "freedom cabbage". This is also where the term for German people called "krauts" comes from.
