Holland, Lincolnshire

The Parts of Holland are the south-easternmost of the three Parts of the county Lincolnshire. The Parts of Lindsey lie to the north, and the Parts of Kesteven lie to the west. The Parts of Holland have a population of around 153,000.

Holland, which is bound in the east by the Wash estuary, is a flat land that forms part of The Fens; an area of natural marshland in eastern England. It has similar characteristics to adjoining parts of Norfolk and other parts of East Anglia to the south-east. It also has had its physical geography compared to parts of the similarly-named (but etymologically unrelated, despite popular misconception) Holland in the Netherlands.

The principal settlement in Holland is Boston, which is the namesake of the Massachusetts city.

Politics

Boston is one of several constituencies in Holland. It was the most pro-Brexit constituency in the 2016 referendum on European Union membership.

Administration

The Parts of Holland are administered by the upper-tier Lincolnshire County Council (which covers much of the traditional county barring northern Lindsey), whose area for statistical purposes is part of the East Midlands of England. Two lower-tier authorities, namely Boston Borough Council and South Holland District Council, effectively administer the north and south of Holland respectively.
