In its latest report, the Sunday Times, citing doctors inside Iran, writes that at least 16,500 protesters have been killed during the crackdown on nationwide protests, with approximately 330,000 others injured. According to the report, the majority of these casualties occurred over two consecutive days of peak violence, Thursday and Friday, January 8–9, 2026. It is further estimated that more than 8,000 people across Iran may have suffered blindness or severe eye injuries. The Sunday Times described these events as the most brutal crackdown by the Islamic Republic in its 47-year history.

Alongside this report, Iran International had previously reported that at least 12,000 people were killed. Meanwhile, according to the latest figures published by HRANA, a total of 3,090 deaths have so far been confirmed and recorded, including 2,885 protesters, 165 government or security personnel, and 21 non-protesting civilians. HRANA has also reported 3,882 cases under review, 2,055 people with severe injuries, 22,123 arrests, and 132 cases of forced confessions broadcast.

However, due to severe communication restrictions and the widespread internet shutdown, access to independent information has been significantly disrupted, and the final figures for casualties and injuries remain incomplete and not independently verifiable.
