Baghdad

Baghdad is the capital city of Iraq. There are about 4.5 million people currently living in the city, with 8 million in the metropolitan area. It should be noted that these statistics are from 2004, and the War in Iraq may have altered these numbers. Baghdad is situated in the interior of the country on the river Tigris.

Bagdad was founded in the 145th year of the Hejira or flight of Muhammed to Medina, 767. It was destroyed by Hulakoo, grandson of Genghis Khan, in the 656th of the Hejira, A.D. 1277, when the dynasty of the Ambassides was terminated. [1]
