Uppity sometimes uppidy is defined as taking liberties or assuming airs beyond one's place in a social heirarchy. Assuming equality with someone higher up the social ladder. The term was coined by Democrats and Ku Klux Klansmen to describe African Americans taking advantage of Republican civil rights efforts to promote Black equality after the Civil War. In addition, it was also used by the racist Democrat Lyndon B. Johnson while talking to his colleague Richard Russell Jr. over conspiring to hold back the progress of black Americans.[1]
