The U.S. Bureau of Education, sometimes also referred to as the U.S. Office of Education was the predecessor to the United States Department of Education that was established on October 17, 1979.

The U.S. Bureau of Education first came into existence in 1867.[1]

The Bureau of Education is best known for publishing a report produced by the NEA on the topic of Social Studies.[2]
