Christians who believe that Jesus was speaking only [[metaphor]]ically in a vividly [[symbol]]ic figure of speech see the Old Testament bloody animal sacrifices offered with bread and wine in atonement for [[sin]] as a ''type'' of the ''antitype'' of their final fulfillment in the reality of his unique, "once and for all" bloody sacrifice of himself on the altar of his crucifixion on the Cross.
