Toronto's CN Tower

Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the capital of the province of Ontario. In the 2011 Canadian census, the city's population is 2,615,060 and its census metropolitan area (CMA) has a population of 5,583,064.[1] This makes it the fifth largest city in North America, and has a population larger than some Canadian provinces. With such a size the city is a leader in Canadian industry, business and banking, communications, media, education, and health care. Toronto also has a strong tourism industry with numerous recreational and historical attractions, such as the CN Tower, the Casa Loma, the Distillery District, Chinatown, Center Island, Toronto Harbour, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Royal Ontario Museum, the National Children's Museum, the Ontario Portrait Gallery, and many more.

Toronto was known as York until 1831. The current mayor is John Tory.
