The Third Amendment to the United States Constitution states:
“ | No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law. | ” |
The amendment is a response to Quartering Acts passed by the British parliament during the American Revolutionary War, giving the British Army the right to lodge soldiers in private American residences.
